Grow your own cut flowers in 2025.
From Seed to Vase… we’ll show you how.
Do you dream of an abundance of cut flowers ? Flowers that you yourself have grown from seed. Imagine having flowers in your garden, on your allotment, or in your field that you can pick as you like… and stepping back through the door with armfuls of flowers.
Having cut flowers around the house during spring, summer and autumn, is something that many of us aspire to, but it can be expensive to buy flowers each week and cheaper bunches from supermarkets are rarely the eco/sustainable option.
Growing your own, no matter the size of your plot, border or container garden, is simpler than you might think once you’re armed with the basic skills to raise, maintain and cut a variety of blooms. And we can tell you from personal experience and the feedback we’ve had from past students that displaying and gifting stems that you’ve grown and cut yourself is sheer joy!
“Gardening helps me rest my stress levels, gives me direction and purpose, and helps me to cope.”
Alison
WHAT IS ‘SEED TO VASE’ AND WHO IS IT FOR?
2025 will see the fifth run of our Seed to Vase course, and we’ve hosted hundreds of students from across the UK and around the world in that time.
Seed to Vase, is designed for everyone, from total beginners, to those with some growing experience and keen to know more (there is always something to learn) and those wanting to join a collaborative community where we all talk flowers. We start in mid-February, as winter starts to fade away* and spring warms the soil, ready to welcome our seedlings. Seed to Vase progresses with regular weekly content right through the growing season, until the end of September, by which time you should have flowers continuing to bloom though autumn/fall and seedlings shooting for your 2026 display.
* Our course is run from the UK, so content will be based around the growing season here but we will answer questions and give advice to those whose climate or calendar varies around the globe. Past students overseas have complimented us on our flexibility and knowledge in this respect.
“I had all these ideas flying around in my head and the course and the community gave me a tribe of people to speak to and share ideas with. Even on the days I was too tired to post in the groups, I was watching the community and making notes.”
Caroline
Seed to Vase will particularly benefit you if you are:
Launch your flower-growing side hustle. Master the essentials for creating cut flowers to sell. Start small and see what happens...
Embracing gardening can lead to better health, reduced stress, and clearer thinking (backed by solid evidence!). If you're spending a lot of time on other people, and not so much on yourself, this could be your good excuse for 'me time' in the garden.
Make your big day unique: growing the flowers for your own wedding (or for a friend or family member) is a priceless personal touch - and, of course, will save you money on flower material.
Fancy a new adventure but close to home? Dive into the cut flower world. The journey's unpredictability is half the excitement! Where will it take you?
Use your love for flowers and new skills to enhance your community and support meaningful causes.
Join us in growing your own blooms in a sustainable way that will give your floral work a new USP. Not only can you grow flowers for the colour/season/stem length that you're likely to use most but you'll be able to cut costs on bought-in flowers, avoid transportation pollution and be less at the mercy of import delays
“When I set out on this journey, I had no intention of making this my living. But I had so many compliments about the flowers I was growing, I felt that I needed to give it a go. I just can’t believe how much I have grown since I began the course.”
Sarah
WHY LEARN TO GROW YOU OWN?
Growing your own blooms will...
Buying in arrangements from florists or a flower delivery subscription can add up, and supermarket flowers, though cheaper, invariably come with a huge carbon trail.
Growing your own will also save you buying plants at the garden centre - and we have exclusive discounts for Seed to Vase students in 2025!
Getting your hands dirty is proven to have positive benefits for your physical and mental health. Gardening is fabulous for your mental wellbeing and fitness.
Watching your plant babies grow is an exciting, magical experience, perhaps only beaten by the feeling of bringing your home-grown blooms into the house.
Currently, 90 percent of all blooms coming into the UK (and the same goes for many countries globally), travel from as far as Kenya, Ethiopia and Chile. They are heavily treated with pesticides (to increase productivity) and chemicals (in order that they survive the journey from picking to the shelves of a florist or supermarket - via a complicated supply chain, to you). The effect on the environment is heavily documented. In the UK we used to be a nation of growers - let's get back to that!
“Before the Seed to Vase course, I had never grown anything from seed. I’ve always bought plants and stuck them in the ground with no real idea of what I was doing. I am all for growing from seed now – it’s just so exciting.”
Rachel
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Seed to Vase is an online course but we don’t just send you the information and let you get on with it. We have a closed Facebook group in which the course community can ask questions and have them answered (if you have a question, chances are several other people will be scratching their head over the same thing). Roz and her horticultural team hold regular live Q&A sessions, and we welcome guest speakers on a variety of topics related to the course.
We record all the course sessions, so if you’re not able to make it at the time or need to review content, you can listen and watch again at your leisure.
“Everyone on the course is just so, so supportive. I could ask any question and within minutes I had a response and an answer – the [Seed to Vase] Community was such a lifesaver.”
Fiona
WHO WILL BE TEACHING ME?
Roz Chandler has built one of the most successful flower farms in the UK, working with her amazing team of expert growers and horticulturalists. Founded 15 years ago, Field Gate Flowers grows and harvests flowers to sell to local individuals and businesses as well as providing floristry for weddings, funerals, corporate launches and other celebration events.
Under the Cut Flower Collective branch of her business, Roz has been providing online and in-person learning for growers, florists and small business owners for over 6 years. Hobbyists and entrepreneurs alike return time after time for the opportunity to learn from someone who has ‘been there, done it’ and is able to pass on her knowledge in an easy and approachable manner.
Roz will be joined on Seed to Vase by experienced horticulturalist Alison Jones. Alison retrained in horticulture after a 17-year corporate career and her first job was to help set up a rare plants nursery. She went on to work as a botanist in Bosina, Montenegro, Croatia, the USA and France, followed by a 4-year tenure as gardener and propagator at the historic Iford Manor in Wiltshire.
Alongside working with Roz, Alison now runs her own business working in private Heritage gardens and as a consultant on independent horticultural projects. She specialises in container gardening, propagation and Pelargoniums and has extensive experience of the global cut flower market.
Roz and Alison present their knowledge in an accessible way for beginners and novices, while offering additional information to experienced growers who want to learn more.

FAQS
Definitely. The great thing about growing cut flowers is that you can start small and scale up if you’re able to access more space in future. You can learn the skills you need by growing in containers and pots, or in a small border. You will need a windowsill or other indoor space with natural light when germinating and growing on seedlings. A greenhouse or polytunnel is great, but not essential ---although we have known people befriend their neighbours and ‘borrow’ greenhouse space in exchange for cut flowers when they bloom!
Absolutely (and you will be helping to save the planet for your children and grandchildren by not buying imported flowers cultivated with artificial chemicals and pesticides).
If you currently enjoy a flower delivery at £29 per week from a well-known service, you will save £1,015 over the time of the course alone - saving you £10,000s over the coming years. And imagine how much more satisfying it will be looking at your own blooms in that vase.
And if you buy flowers at a supermarket for £10 per week, together with, say, six bunches of flowers from the florists at £50, this is a total of £650 over the run of the course. And we will teach you skills that you can use in the years to come.
Yes, and each year we have students from overseas join Seed to Vase. We love to welcome students from all over the world and it’s fascinating to see how your cutting patch develops slightly differently from those in the UK. Our live sessions are generally scheduled at 8pm GMT/12noon PST/9pm CET but are always recorded and available to watch back. Lots of our overseas students love to grow an 'English Cottage Garden'!
Sadly, due to bio-security restrictions, we are not able to send the seed packs outside England, Scotland and Wales, but you can still follow along in the sow-a-long.
We have searched… but there is nothing out there quite like Seed to Vase. Here are a few reasons why past students have felt we were the right choice for them:
Comprehensive and Step-by-Step Approach: Our course is structured to cover everything you need to know to grow your own cut flowers. Roz and her support team make themselves available online to answer your questions as soon as possible. This is a very interactive course, and they want to ensure you have all the skills to succeed.
Expertise and Professionalism. Our team are experts and have years of horticultural and flower growing experience. We supplement our knowledge with monthly guest speakers, covering a range of topics and skills.
Community and Support: We pride ourselves on an active community and continuous expert support. We are with you all the way.
We aim to make this course accessible and affordable for all. We offer monthly payment plans, and from £1.61 a day, our course represents amazing value with skills that will last a lifetime.
Experience. Having taught 100's of flower lovers, we know what works. Our course has been added to over the years and we believe it's the best there is.
We see you, advanced student, and acknowledge your expertise. Of course, you could skip parts you feel you really know. But there is always something to learn in cut flower growing and as part of the online Seed to Vase course community we learn from each other’s experiences. We share successes and, of course, the inevitable things that don’t go to plan… It is a very supportive way to grow and expand your learning at the same time.
Our course is designed so that you can consume content at different times, fitting learning and growing around your other commitments. Although we host regular live sessions and it’s great if you can make them in ‘real time’, everything is recorded and available to access without an end date. We designed the course with maximum flexibility, to be as accessible as possible for all lifestyles.
Yes. We offer monthly payments over the 8-month period of the course. More details are given below. The full course fee must be paid off by the end of the course (in this case, 30 September 2025). Please scroll down if you would like to pay in instalments.
“I love being able to look out of the window and see the flowers and plants I’ve grown myself. It gives me such a sense of pride to look outside and think I great that – I did it! But I’ve also had so much enjoyment from the course itself.”
Julie
